About

We are a little farm nestled in the mountains of south central British Columbia Canada. In this pristine environment we grow plants that can be used as medicine. Our gardens are strictly organic. The farm is a co-operative venture with our beautiful animals-bashkir curly horses, chickens, honey bees and the forces of nature.

Flying Hands Farm is a bona fide farm with membership in the Kootenay Organic Growers Association of British Columbia, Canada. Our motto in farming and business - “Tread lightly and do no harm.”

Our gardens produce onions, garlic, strawberries and medicinal herbs, which are grown with healing intent from propagation to harvest. Soil fertility, on what was 25 years ago young wilderness forest with rock and very sparse topsoil, is maintained with the manure of our happy healthy animals and the use of natural and dolomite lime.

The land has never seen the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides. Pests are seen impartially and respectfully. Our large population of birds, small brown bats and indigenous toads and our domestic ducks help restore balance.
Weeds are used and revered. Some are composted to provide needed minerals in the compost piles. Some noble plants with weed status are part of our wonderfully effective herbal formulas! We can’t get enough chickweed and dandelions. Some weeds need to be kept in check through the use of heavy organic mulches and black plastic, which warms our cold soils and encourages earthworms. We let the worms be our guide. If they like it, we use it.

We use netting and fencing to discourage wildlife from helping themselves too much to farm bounty. Our guard dogs and mated curly horses keep large predators out of the neighbourhood, safe in the forest, fairly inaccessible from human predators.

Our animals enjoy the 5 Freedoms as embraced by responsible farms:

1. Freedom from malnutrition

2. Freedom from thermal and physical discomfort

3. Freedom from injury and disease

4. Freedom from fear

5. Freedom to express normal patterns of animal behavior as long as they do not cause harm to others

This website was created with the intent to promote health, healing and to help alleviate physical pain. Keep your mind open to these possibilities.
